The
history of Hadsund squaredance.
Hadsund squaredance was started in
the winter of 1986 by Hadsund gymnastic association, it started with a team for
children.
The year before the children
had danced “folk-dance”, but they wanted to try the fast & easier
squaredance, with delightful music.
From the beginning, we had danced New style squaredance which is a version of
modern western squaredance. Squaredance, original from USA, is danced by an
international set of rules, set by an association called callerlab, that way
dancers all over the world can dance together.
The dance is divided in
different levels, we have a couple of levels in Hadsund.
The difference between
squaredance and other dances is, you don’t learn a “whole” dance, but
calls, which the caller then puts together while the dance gets along
The music we dance to, is
mostly country & western, which we buy directly in the USA.
We were so fortunate to
have a connection to callerlab right from the start, by having access to
learning material from them.
Starting of with one team of
12, Hadsund squaredance has grown to 75 members including both children and
adults
At the present time
there a 4 teams:
Children
Basic
(Adult amateur)
Plus
(adults with 5 years of training)
A1
(adults with 8 – 15 years of training)
It’s still Hadsund gymnastic
association, who is behind squaredance in Hadsund, and beside the weekly
training sessions, the dancers perform a lot of shows.
